Happy New Year

I don't even know if I will be able to stay awake till midnight (can't actually remember the last time that I did...). So Happy New Year to everyone. :D I did decide to make a few goals for 2008. Nothing really huge just very simple. 1) Post everyday here (unless I lose a net connection or am in the hospital). This might be easy some days where I have lots to write about and lots of art to show and other days I might struggle to find anything to post. But I am going to try anyway and see if I can post everyday. 2) Do Pilates at least 3 times a week. I am supposed to be doing this anyway for physio, so it shouldn't be hard once I start doing it again. It is only hard the first week or 2 and than after that it is much easier. So those 2 plus the previous things mentioned in the 2008 Plans post are my goals for 2008. Not much but a year will tell if they get done :) So a post tomorrow with art!

B Mine

Image
"B Mine" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Coloured Pencil and Neocolors 2 on Stonehenge For Sale here Little card based on those little candy hearts people would eat at around Valentines Day. They were usually hard as a rock when I got them and I'm surprised that I didn't chip a few teeth :p Going to try to do another art card of those little red hot candy hearts. I remember stuffing as many in my mouth as I could, trying to be the person who had the most in their mouth but trying to hide my watering eyes as they hearts were really hot when you tried to eat half a bag or more at a time. But they were really good :) (my tongue hated me for days after trying this and I think the only think I could eat was crackers) Also want to try to find some Valentines themed fabric to make either a few bags or a few little dragons with. I know its early but this year I want to be more prepared.

2008 Plans

Image
I don't actually have any lol. Well I plan on still writing here, still drawing and trying to improve artistically. I need to sketch more, draw things I normally don't and draw more dragons! I really haven't drawn a big dragon piece lately and I really should, considering the blog title and the business name has the word dragon in it :p. I have all kinds of ideas for dragon pictures and other fantasy creatures. :) So to help me sketch more, I thought that I would try to draw the list over here from the Everday Matters group. Lots of different things to draw and many of them I either haven't drawn since high school or not at all. Going to use my little moleskine sketchbook for the sketches in the hope that I improve even a little. Not sure what I am going to do with the sketchbook once its filled though. Also going to try to participate in Illustration Friday . A topic is chosen weekly to draw. I have had the topics emailed to me the last few weeks but haven't found

Birds on Ice??

Image
I keep thinking I'm going to look out of the back window and see little birds doing triple axels on the bird bath. hmmm, that might make a cute drawing :D Frozen berries, not sure if they are edible though. Doesn't matter I guess when if you did try to eat them you might break a tooth :p And I thought this was funny :D

Tookie Tookie

"Toco Toucan" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip ACEO 2.5 by 3.5 Inches Coloured pencil on Stonehenge paper For Sale Here Another bird ACEO. Lots of fun to do this one as they are one of my favourite birds. There are so many beautiful types to look at. I would love to own one but would have to do a lot of reading and hands on learning before I would even seriously think about getting one.

Too Many Lights??

Image
Its cold You can see this house before you turn the corner. Its very bright, pictures don't do it justice. She has a donation box wrapped in lights in the front to be given to the Guide Dogs, someone has tried to steal it before before*angry face*. Want to drive yourself crazy and use your head more?? Try any of the puzzles here :) Art tomorrow :) Spent the weekend making cookies and wrapping presents in between sneezing (not over the cookies!!). Did I mention its cold?!? I think I could deal with the cold if I had snow to play in. Your never too old to play in the snow :D Links: Guide Dog Site

Cookies!!

Image
Our oven hates me still, but most of the cookies are edible. (We were lucky today the evil oven god only minorly singed the cookies rather than fully sacrificing/cremating them, then again it does tend to get regular sacrifices from other people so perhaps it was in a good mood tonight lol) I got the recipe from Rita at Purple Tastes Good and it gets an approval from everyone in the house :) So thank you Rita. :) And I bought a jar of icing to use and its all mine!! Well almost, John uses it some time but still a tub of icing to myself is a good thing, well maybe not for my stomach.... (and I will have no sympathy for her either :P says the evil husband) hrmm....

Fabric Labels

Image
So I thought it might be a professional touch to have labels to sew onto any bags or stuffed animals I make. So after finding a shop I can get them done at a reasonable price I spent most of the day designing labels, and this is what I came up with. Very simple (yes this took me half a day, don't laugh! :P). I did have the dragon that is in my banner above where the little inked dragon is, but I could never get it to print right without it looking really blurry. So a few quick little scribbles later and time for the ink to dry (remembers horrible time when I didn't let the ink dry and I ruined a huge drawing and ended up with ink on my hands and face for a week...), I had a little dragon finished. I do have a Xmas dragon picture drawn, but because of the size I don't know if it will get finished by Xmas. Going to try though *crosses fingers*. Of course I might get sidetracked making cookies tomorrow :) I was sad to read this about Terry Pratchett :( I really enjoy his book

Juicy

Image
"Juicy" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip ACEO 2.5 by 3.5 Inches Coloured Pencil Oranges side by side. I loved oranges, can't eat them since I had my Gall Bladder out though :( *sobs* Going to put this on sale tomorrow once I get some better pictures of it. Having a hard time getting a good scan. Its either too harsh or too dull, no matter what I try to change. Very cold here, but no snow which is strange. I want to make a snowman, but it might have to be a slushman. :p

O Tannenbaum

Image
People were always looking at me strange when I would start singing O Tannenbaum. I never knew the rest of the lyrics in German before but here they are from Wikipedia (so they could be wrong) : O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, Wie grün sind deine Blätter! O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, Du kannst mir sehr gefallen! O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, Dein Kleid will mich was lehren: Die Hoffnung und Beständigkeit Gibt Mut und Kraft zu jeder Zeit! O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum, Dein Kleid will mich was lehren! Sing it with me! Actually I have no idea how to pronounce any of that besides the first line but it would be cool to learn German. Art post later, but for now here is the new Xmas tree John's parents bought (its fake, but better for the envir

All Lit Up

Image
For some reason whenever we go to Dundee to take pictures of the lights its always raining. But it wasn't really that cold so thats a plus. I love these blue lights, much more colour I thought this year than the last but most of the pictures are blurry :( And the start of another drawing. The plan is to have it a set of 2 close-ups, hopefully focusing more on the tack the horses where wearing. I only have one sheet of this paper colour (Canson mi-tientes), and can't seem to get any more. I don't even know what the colour is called because it shows up lighter here, its more of a reddish brown in person. I think I have another sheet of dark blue which might go with the colour of this paper or might have to take a small corner of it and take it paper shopping with me to find a match. Which might get me some odd looks from people.... One horse is a dark bay, the other is a really light red roan (I think?). I think they will look really nice side by side.

Moggy Finished

Image
"Moggy" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip ACEO 2.5 by 3.5 inches Coloured pencil Finished the WIP. I did end up getting carried away and forgot to scan it again between colours. I might do this one again on different paper. I didn't do it on black paper because I didn't think I could have gotten the eye as bright as it is here and didn't use white paper because I wasn't sure how long it would take to fill in all that black. Kinda regretting using the yellow paper because I am not sure if I like how much of it shows threw the black. I can't lay any more colour down sadly so it is what it is. I like the eye itself, just wish the black was darker. And here is the town tree (photo taken with John's phone). It looks dead. :/ And it doesn't look any better at night lit up. The lights look like they were just thrown on.

Moggy WIP

Image
"Moggy" WIP Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip A little work in progress of another cat's eye. This time an everyday black moggy. For most of the ACEOs that I do, I do a quick little 5 minute sketch on paper already marked for the right size (2.5 by 3.5 inches) so that I know the finished drawing will fit the right format. Than transfer the drawing either with transfer paper or if the finished paper is light enough I use a light table to trace the lines. So far with this I have just layered a few light yellows and oranges around the edge of the eye. The pupil is a combination of dark green, dark blue, black cherry and than black over that. Sometimes I just use black itself, but it does have a tendency to look really flat. I put a few faint lines where the darker parts of the fur will be just so that I remember when filling in the rest of the fur. Not sure how much of a WIP this will be as it is a simple little thing but I will try to get one more scan of the eye before it is

Xmas Tree

Image
The Xmas tree in downtown Dundee. I think its pretty, probably looks better when its lit up but it was raining so we didn't stay around long enough for it to get dark. Going to go back maybe sometime this week, later in the day to try to get some nice shots of the lights. I'm not a Xmas person, but I do like looking at all the light displays. :) *edit* did I post this link before?? Its a link to how to fold an origami dragon. I haven't tried it yet, not sure what paper to use. I want to make one thats 4 feet tall but not sure where I would get paper big enough :p

Tiger Tiger

Image
"Tiger Tiger..." Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Coloured Pencils on Canson Mi-Tientes paper For Sale Here Another ACEO. Love looking at cat's eyes. There are so many colours to be found in them. And they are really nice to draw, use colours I don't get to use that often. Today I had a Doctors appointment that I have been waiting for over 3 months to go to and when I get there the Dr. says he has no idea why I am there. So I am a little mad at that, I do seem to recall I said I was a little pissed off and I don't mean drunk. Some notes are missing (not the first time this has happened), so I have to wait more time for the problem to be looked at, or even for the Doctors to find the problem in the first place, which I thought was written on the missing notes (thats a lot of commas in that sentence :p). A complaint about the missing notes and other things is being written up and sent for me to sign, but honestly have no idea what, if anything it will accomplish. Ok

Crazy Dog

Image
Been busy drawing and sewing, so sorry to not have posted the last few days. So to make up for it, have a video of a crazy dog in Canada trying to escape (not really, he has always pulled and run around with the rope. He has pulled so hard, he pulled the door frame away from the wall). John does swear once in the video just so people know, and for once its not me swearing :) lol And this is news to me, didn't think the blog would be this smart. lol :p

I think I have to have a set task for each day so that I get more done. Like today I spend all day drawing ACEOs and tomorrow I cut fabric and patterns for dragons and bags out. Its either going to work wonderfully or backfire horribly. :p It is freezing here. People keep saying to me " You're Canadian you shouldn't be cold". Yeah I'm Canadian, not a bloody Polar Bear :p Listed a print of the Gum balls in my store :)

This is Going to Take a Long Time

Image
This is all I have done on my scarf so far. The bottom looks a little rough but as I am progressing its starting to look better. Not sure what colour I will use once I have finished with the red. Maybe white, and make a Canadian scarf :p It would match my coat lol. Doesn't have to be perfect, but I think its always good when a person learns a new skill. (still crossing my fingers its done by the end of winter ;) ) I have been listing to the Seether's new album "Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces" a lot . I really like it and recommend it (but I have been known to have weird tastes in music). Its loud but not too loud (that probably doesn't make any sense). If you listen to the whole album and not just the single "Fake It" which is very catchy, it is a well written album with great instrumentals. Lots of art to finish and more art to list on Etsy. Going to work more on my site tomorrow and hopefully it is finished soon. :) Listed the Teddy Bears I had dr

Shake a Paw?

Image
"Shake a Paw?" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip ACEO 2.5 by 3.5 Inches Coloured Pencil Rain, rain and more rain. The last 3 days have been what most people think of when they think of Scotland, plus its cold. Apologies for the lack of updates. There really hasn't been anything happening to write about. I'm starting to look like a pin cushion , and I changed my mind about the fantasy creature I am drawing. I really want to draw a gryphon, just need to think of a different bird species than what is normally used and possibly a different cat too. The more colour the better though. :) Suggestions welcome. A Leopard and a Secretary bird? Not very colourful, but not your everyday bird.

Mr.Happy

Image
I am drawing but don't really have much to show because I am working on so many things at once. The lab from a few posts ago, the fantasy creature from my poll, 2 horse drawing, a few art cards, and another stuffed dragon. So once again I apologize for the lack of art. I promise to post art tomorrow, I am hoping to get the Lab finished and an art card and if I get more completed than great :) I also learned to Crochet today (my back is killing me). I'm trying to make a scarf, but after almost 2 hours I have only 2 and a half lines done and its only about 7 inches wide. It might be done by spring :p lol I used to read the Mr. Men and Little Miss books when I was a kid and they have this promotion going on there where you can get a couple of the characters from the books. So here is Mr. Happy watching over my pencils and an art card I am working on. (and I believe a person is never too old to have toys or stuffed animals, life is too short to be serious all the time and not hav

Lazy Saturday

Image
Not much to post for today so here, have a few pictures. Luka, wondering what I have in my hand and if he can eat it :p I think he looks really cute here. And a picture of me holding a reptile in Niagara. He weighed about 30 pounds but felt like he was heavier. The keeper told me to hold him that way and the reptile didn't seem to mind. I was looking at his claws here I think (and really glad at that moment the reptile was friendly :p) I remember what type of reptile he was, but for the life of me can't spell it. So the few votes I received in my little poll say that I should draw some fantasy creature. So should I draw a unicorn or some really far out creature off the top of my head? I haven't drawn a unicorn in awhile, but an original creature would probably be fun.

Horse for Sale

Listed the Shire horse that I had drawn a few months ago. :) I remember reading the pet section in the paper and seeing all these horses for sale; "Its only a pony! It will fit in the backyard!" :p (I still do that but this time its for a dog "It won't get any taller than my hip! I promise! :p" Its very strange. Its freezing cold out, there is frost on the ground and puddles freeze up, but there are still apples on the tree in the backyard.

Commission Info

Information that I am going to have on my site once the design work is all done (and the re-inking of the dragon ;) ) Does anyone think that a deposit of %50 is too much? I have had people try to get out of paying and people not giving me the full price before (not because they didn't want the finished piece either, I was stupid and gave them the piece on faith the money would be paid), and would prefer not to get ripped off. But I wasn't sure if the deposit was too high. Commission Info I can draw your family pet from the ones with fur to the ones with scales. Any kind of wildlife you would like and fantasy characters. Moo Finished!

Image
So full of stuffing, a seam burst. oops. That was easily fixed though. I really like the way he turned out. Next time I will maybe add some spikes to his back and tail. :) And he still looks really startled. I was trying to get a better view of his wings. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I am going to stick him in some trees and take some pictures. I am sure the neighbours will look at me funny. :p Now to beat him up to make sure he doesn't fall apart lol. Probably not going to sell him, but the next one that I make will be for sale. :) (but really if someone wants him I would be willing to part with him.)

New Website Design

Image
So what do the people that read this blog think? Too green? Too bright? The green is bright on my screen but it doesn't hurt my eyes. But I wont to know if it does hurt anyone's eyes or if you think it might turn people away from the site? It will of course be bigger and there will be a news box under where it says news and between the dragons tail. I will add my Etsy store to the for sale section because I think for the moment it will just be easier for any potential buyers. Any suggestions are most welcome!

Spotted Head

Image
The head for my stuffed cow/dragon. :) He looks really startled. I only managed to get the head finished this weekend. The weekend just flew by and it was another one where I can't seem to remember what I did. I know I did things, just don't really remember what. Very confusing. The eyes are safety eyes, supposed to be hard, if not almost impossible to get apart. They were almost impossible to get together :p Took a lot of pushing and brute force (which I have little of). Crossing my fingers that I get the rest sewn tomorrow, if not the whole thing finished. Listed the Peacock ACEO today, finally got a good picture of it. Yesterday was so grey I couldn't get any nice pics. And I started playing with my Facebook account that I have had for awhile but never did anything with. Now that I am using it, I can see that I can and probably will be spending a lot of time on the site. I went and tried to see if any of the people that I went to school with were on there. Found a few,

I wish the green was a little brighter but it won't seem to get any brighter :( Not sure if that is because there isn't enough tooth on the paper left, or the green pencils that I have are just not bright enough. I could use my neon green, but that might be too bright lol. Still really like it though :D Going to try to get a picture of it tomorrow outside so the colours show up better. We actually had snow last night. It didn't stay around, but the wind did. Needed lead in my boots to stop me from blowing away. And my eyes arrived today. Blue, brown and green. Going to sew a cow print dragon tomorrow. John cut out the fabric pieces for me and while he didn&#

Update on an Old Post

*Rant ahead, ignore if you will. Just a warning* :) Some people might remember awhile back I wrote about an attack on a local wildlife centre , well this is what has happened and it doesn't surprise me at all. *angry* I know there will be a lot of angry people over this, and I personally think that the youths (not to label them, but probably neds) really should have been punished for what they did. I don't tend to get angry or publish my personal views in this blog, but saying that there are concerns about why the youths were out alone so late at night is a bunch of bull****. I see kids as young as 5 out by themselves on the street, either yelling or breaking things. Its a common thing so I don't know why that is a concern when the damage that they, ok might have done, is not really a concern. People have tried to change and help people like the ones that are talked about in the articles, but its hard to change people when they don't want to be helped or change they w

Don't Actually Throw Rocks at People

Leslie gave me this link to a fun little game because the subject of signs saying "No Boys Allowed" came up when girls start a club. Kills a few minutes, but be warned, there is a bit of cartoon violence but its not like if you were to watch an episode of Itchy and Scratchy :p I put a print of my swan that I had coloured awhile ago up in my Etsy shop. Swan print. I want to put original art there as well, but I'm not sure if people are willing to pay as much as I would like for them. I might list this piece first and see what happens. If I get time I might start another ACEO, this time of a peacock. I have noticed that I have been drawing a lot of birds. I just like drawing them I guess. All the different species, and colours make them really interesting to draw. My sewing of the pink dragon went all right. I ended up not being able to get the head attached to the body, but the problem was solved by making the pattern bigger. So I am going to sew another one, but maybe

Pink Fur up my Nose

Image
Finished cutting up the fabric for my pink dragon. There was pink fuzzy fabric everywhere!! It sticks to everything:hair, carpet, the laptop, even my face. Started sewing it together, not expecting a perfect stuffy for a first try with this pattern but at least it will let me know how hard or easy it is to sew. Went with the green eyes and they look nice :D Changed the tail so that it is more spikey, it was too round for my tastes. And it sounds like we are being attacked again this year. At least the streets are not filled with smoke like I have been reading has happened in a few places. :/ Drew a little thank you dragon to put on stationary and on cards. Very simple and very quickly done. I think its kinda cute. (apologies for the watermark) *coughs up pink fuzz*

Actual Art

Image
Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip The start of a small drawing of a Lab done in graphite. Its about 3 inches square so shouldn't take that long. I do often forget how much I love drawing in graphite, sometimes it is so much simpler not having to think of what colour to choose next. I think I have just used a HB pencil so far, might have to go darker once it is completely finished. For some strange reason I have an urge to draw a rabbit, its kinda strange. Bought some fabric today, not 100% sure what I am going to do with all of it, but the pink and the cow print are definitely going to be turned into dragons :D Dragons can be pink (and look like cows after eating too many knights) :p *edit* blue or green eyes with the pink fabric?? *end edit*

Ack!! Needles

Today Scottish word: 1) aglee Answer to the last Scottish word: 1) a hack is a crack in your skin that is caused by cold I don't talk about me having MS here because I really don't want it to seem like I'm fishing for sympathy, but I have decided to mention this. Today I was taught how to give myself a shot I have to have 3 times a week. It is called Rebif , which is supposed to help reduce the amount of relapses that I might have. The MS nurse that was helping me, was very nice and understanding. Took her time explaining how to do things and than had me try a few times with empty needles before I used a filled needle on myself. I haven't had any of the symptoms that could have happened, which is a good thing and the injection area looks perfectly fine. Didn't hurt and because of the auto-injector I don't actually see the needle touch me, which I'm not sure if I would have a problem with. I have had so many needles it shouldn't, but it might be different

Marshmallow

Image
There really isn't any reason for this post beside showing off the stuffed bear I just got from John. Its very hard taking one's own picture. And a picture from Port Dover, so bad its not funny....... And thats my hand that Scorpion is on. I wasn't afraid it would sting me, the guy there said it wouldn't hurt that much (not sure if he was telling me that so I would hold it), and I figured he wouldn't have let me hold something that might have killed me :p. It did start pinching me though. That didn't hurt, but it was noticeable and more like what are you pinching me for?. The guy there laughed and said that most people would have flung it across the room if that had of happened to them.

Happy Halloween!!

Image
Here is our craptastic (its a word, it is....)gingerbread house. Yeah its from a kit but I am not sure how to bake gingerbread so we cheated. lol It was fun to do, its still in one piece. Maybe start to eat it tomorrow. I did plan to have a Halloween dragon picture done for this year, but my chest infection took a few days out of drawing so it isn't done :( Just a few pumpkins to finish and some gravestones. If I get it done, I might post it but it seems wrong to post it after Halloween. Don't rot too many teeth with all the candy you eat. :) I will post the answer to the last Scottish word posted on Friday. I think I am just going to post them every Friday. Going to run out of words to post if I post one every time I make a blog post. :)

Moo?

Image
So I had meant to post this yesterday, but I fell asleep at about 5 in the afternoon and spent the rest of the day in bed :p (which isn't a good thing, but it probably helped the chest infection). Here are my Moo cards that I ordered. I really like them :) Ordering was very easy. 1) Just upload your pictures that you want to use, you can upload 100 different pictures or just one. Example, if you upload 4 like I did, you will get 25 of each design. Make sure they are high quality images (I used images that I had already made print proofs of) and possibly make them a little lighter than they normally would be. I have read of some cases where the cards are very dark, so to compensate lighten the images (but not a lot). I didn't lighten my images and my cards turned out perfectly fine. 2) You can move the images that you have uploaded around a bit so that they look the way you want in the box marked for being printed. The images can be rotated so they fit either the long way or

Pretty Colours

Back from Canada. We had great weather, it only rained one day and that day was spent mostly on the road getting lost on the way to London. ;) We took lots of pictures so I will probably post some of them during the next week or so, but for now have a few pictures of the falls lit up at night. The Canadian side was pretty much covered in fog and mist so its really hard to get pictures of them at night. I didn't actually get to draw, but I did manage to pick up some kind bug/flu so thats fun :/ I have a lot of reading to catch up on now. :) *edit forgot to add a Scottish word to the post* Todays Scottish word: 1) hack Answer to the last Scottish word: 1) inby means inside

Guess where we are??

Image
Hi I (John aka Jen's husband) have taken over this blog for today, in light of the awful photo Jen has chosen to use today :P Jen deems I smile strangely (or doesn't smile at all - Jen) in photos so she is trying to manipulate a "proper" smile out of my face :P I'll give you guys a clue.....We're somewhere in Canada......but where exactly is for the guessing. ok......another clue somewhere with lots and lots of water. We have video also, but Jens language is a tad foul so we might try again today. Anyways going to go and do some sight seeing, eat more junk food and act more like tourists :P

Going Away

Be back in a week with pictures, more Scottish words and hopefully some art. :D Please come back then :) (of course this is unless I buy too many candy rockets /fuzzy fabric and it stops the plane getting airborne :P I'm addicted to candy rockets) Not sure if will have net access back in the land of snow, moose and beavers eh! :P Apologies if you send me a message and I don't reply then the above should explain (or that I have been maimed by some possessed deer). *starts signing Canadian anthem* wait....I can't remember the words :P

Dragon Lino

Image
Carving a lino block. I forgot how much fun it was. Sometimes a little dangerous when the blades get a little close to my fingers, but luckily that doesn't happen that often ;) (maybe I should go and get some more band-aids). Lots of work left to do, probably will not get finished until after we come back from Canada. :/ Probably lose a bit of the detail in carving it, but the basic design will still be there. Don't have a printing press (nor the space or the money for one anyway), so using ink on it and just pressing it onto paper will have to do. :) I remember trying to move the little press we had in High school. Weighed a ton!!

Watermark

Image
I don't usually use watermarks on images that I post online, because if someone really wanted to and had the patience a watermark can be taken off. I do sometimes put them on my finished dragon pieces just because those are the pictures that I have the most problem with people taking. So not that I will be using it that often I still decided to make one. I took a design I made for one version of my website and just added a copyright notice to the bottom. Was very easy to do. It a little fuzzy right now, but I can change the settings of it if I ever do place it on art. Opened up a Flickr account, not sure why I didn't before. Here it is :)

Devil Dragon

Image
"Halloween Dragons 2007" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Part of a bigger Halloween dragon picture I am working on that when finished will be 14 by 11 inches big. I can't seem to get a good scan of this, not really sure why though. Once it is finished I will take it to get professionally scanned. Its neocolours and coloured pencil again. Using the neocolours saves so much time its not even funny. John wants me to make caramel squares (shortbread, caramel and chocolate on top). They are very good, and you can make them in the microwave :) The ones I had when were in Looe where huge!! I did try to make them at dad's and while they did get eaten, they probably could have been better.
