Midlife Crisis?

Lily in the inlaws backyard

No I'm not having a midlife crisis at 27, but if your 50 and going whitewater rafting does that count?

I think its a cool thing to try, but I just hope that they know how to swim (I know mom can swim but I don't know if her partner can swim that well). Most people would just buy a fast car :p but they already have a Harley each to ride so I guess whitewater rafting would be the next step lol

I did nothing today! And am pretty proud of the fact. I need a day off every once and awhile. :D

But of course now I have a lot of art to finish and lots of fabric to cut.

This is the fabric that I am going to use. Swap it on the UK swap on Flickr. Its a really pretty fabric. The plan is to add a little pocket to the front to put erasers and sharpeners in and have a bit of elastic to hold a pencil or two. Its so much easier carrying around the little sketchbook compared to the huge ones I use to use.
This was a really odd thing to see. Dozens of little birds hoping around. I was afraid it was going to turn all Hitchcock and the birds would attack through the window. The lawn had not been mowed and it hadn't rained so no idea why the birds were so attracted to the lawn. (yeah the weeds look horrible, they are in the process of dieing. Probably going to strip the whole little garden right back)

  1. I have to say, I learned to ride a motorbike about 5 years ago and I would probably enjoy white water rafting. I spose I am not too far off 50 either, am I meant to be sensible now then? It won't happen any time soon, PMSL.
Your birds are a bit freaky - I remember watching that film for the first time and I must have been at junior school. I am VERY suprised my parent allowed me to watch it tbh! I got half way walking to school and loadsa crows were on the climbing frame, I ran like hell!
Love the fabric, it is very mystical looking.

  2. Oh nothing wrong with riding a bike, I don't class that as a midlife crisis (I grew up around people that had motorcycles, no different to me that people having a car. But I refuse to ride one, not sure why though lol). What made you decide to learn to ride?

I plan on never really growing up, being sensible is boring :p Its just really odd that they are going whitewater rafting. Really out of character. My sister told me to guess what they are doing, that I never would. Well she was right, that would have been the last thing I would have guessed lol probably go bungee jumping next (which I really want to try myself and am kicking myself I never did it in NZ :) ) Maybe its not an age thing, just never pegged either of them to do any kind of extreme sports lol

I am a firm believer that if you start acting your age that you start looking it. Does that make any sense?

I've never actually seen all of it! I can never find it at the movie store and I always miss the beginning when its on tv. Never seen Psycho either. And the birds were back this morning, but a cat scared them off this time. For once I was glad there was a cat in the yard lol

  3. I learn't to ride cos I didn't trust the guy I was with at the time as a passenger, LOL. I should have listened to all my instincts! I haven't ridden for about three/four years now though, I sold my bike to pay for stuff when times were tough...the other thing was that when I told my bruv to take care wherever he was going, his last very last words to me were to take care on that "bloody" bike....
The roads are just so busy now, somehow it seems like an unnecessary risk.I just wouldn't have the time now anyway and my big planes take up available space!....just every so often I get the devil in me and would love to go and have a blast...
I do think it is weird when people act totally out of character, I s'pose my son wouldn't be surprised at most things but if it isn't their normal thing, I can understand that "white water rafting" is a strange one to suddenly undertake ;)
I wouldn't do bungee, I look and do the risk assessment and it is too risky for me although I did one that was a skydive type thing (an adventure park with that one has since closed)with a proper harness and stuff, same sort of thing but more robust! So I can be a bit sensible, PMSL, I best be careful else I will start to look ancient.
Btw I think a bird theme would be great if you enjoy doing them....
I confess at the minute I don't quite know where to go from where I am at, although I have got some nice new papers to try when I find a decent subject...

Did you go out there and evenly space all those birds? :)

I am a sissy. I am decidedly over 50, and I have no plans to do any risk taking any time soon.

    Grow up? Never...

  5. I am a scardy cat!
    i don't do risky stuff...lol

  6. Lovely fabric! I remember the Hitchcock movie 'The Birds' all too well. I was a young teen and it freaked me out. The birds on your lawn are possibly looking for grubs or insects which usually surface after rain or a heavy dew.

  7. lol chrissy its not really that out of character for mom, but way out of character for her partner lol I would never in a million years have thought he would do something like that.

I really do need to find that movie now. I use to watch a lot of horror movie so I might find it tame. We are probably going to get a bird feeder for the front lawn tomorrow, but of course the birds will probably ignore it :p They were fighting were fighting over worms today, was funny to watch :)

I'm actually afraid to cut the fabric, its so pretty I don't want to wreck it lol
