Let it Snow,....

well, its more like sludge now, but things were white for a few minutes before it really started to rain. I'm good with a light dusting of snow, really don't want the snow we had last year. Way too much snow for around here, people don't know what to do.

3rd pass, which doesn't look that different from the last one :p

2nd Pass

This is going to take awhile :p I probably shouldn't show wips of reduction lino cuts, one mess up and you really can't fix it :p Current count of prints is 6, but I might end up with only one if I mess up.

These were supposed to be for a print exchange, but while I can get them done in time, I don't think that they would arrive on time because of all the backlog of mail from Xmas. hmmm maybe next year and at least I should have some nice looking prints anyway :)

Cream of potato soup made with soy milk and bacon. A creamy soup I can eat. Do you know how hard it is to eat out sometimes when you are lactose intolerant? It can be almost impossible :/ Forget ice cream, only can have the cheap stuff that doesn't actually count as ice cream :p

Anyway, Xmas is over for another year...Yay! :p And there is no snow in sight, double yay! Haven't really done any artwork since I went on break from college, but I have all kinds of ideas in my head. Need to make a mask, so will have to get dirty and gooey with paper-mache and feathers. Lots of feathers.

On to the next year, where I don't really have any goals, other than finishing college...think that it

More Creepy?

I have no idea why I am producing works of art like this, but I like them :p

Sketchy Naked Person

Last day of college before Xmas and it was life drawing in the morning and mixed media in the afternoon; which I missed as I had a meeting to go to, I don't think I have actually been to one of these classes yet this block due to meetings and being ill. I have a lot of work to catch up on, but at least I have a few ideas in my head to work with.
I'm trying to be quick with life drawing, but at the same time you cane tell that it is still a person, its not too sketchy. I think I've found a way to draw people that I enjoy finally.

Whats that? Timmys fallen down the well again? meh, leave him there :p

Scottish Word of the Week

This weeks word is: gowan

Last weeks word, flit, a few people got this one right :) It does mean to move house, either properly or in the middle of the night :p

Friday, December 16, 2011

For someone that went almost 30 years without drinking, I seem to be making up for lost time :p Not really, but I do like some of the ciders you can get here. This one is pretty good, still love the toffee apple one tho

Its not all odd drawings and alcohol here :p Pretty happy with this life drawing, yeah OK so the face could use some work, but I like how the arms look.
This was supposed to be a wolf, but it looks more like a cuddly dog :p

I have mixed media this block, so will pretty much just be making a big mess and acting like I am back in preschool :p

Yeah, take from this what you want :p An odd looking horse skull, very odd.

Back to School

Still coughing a bit, but feeling much better than I was, so back to college I go. *starts humming a tune....*

Lots to get caught up with, so out comes the watercolours as I can get stuff done quick with them. Besides the speed factors, I do really like the finished look and think I'm getting a lot looser with them with all this practice.

Making a Mess

One dark purple print :D
I think this look so cool :D I'm messing around with lino and canvas, really just making a mess with no thought to what I am doing, but there was paint left on the plate so decided to pull a paper print or 2. This is one of the results.

And just so people don't think its all playing with paint right now, when I'm not coughing I am working on this leopard :)

Round and Round Finished

More of the carousal lino cut :) Here I started to cut away the lino,
Finished cutting away the lino. Now originally I was going to cut away a lot of the block, have it so that it would look like a colouring book print so I could colour the areas in, but I changed my mind again :p I could still do that when I get bored with this block tho.
One inked up block, sort of, needed more ink...
One print proof :) Really like how the flower on its nose looks, might look neat with a gradient over it. I did pull a "real" print but its still a little too wet to take a pic of or scan. Hopefully tomorrow.

Year of the Dragon

Ingrid had sent me a link to a print exhibition and I had forgotten about it until she mentioned it again a week or so ago. Saw this ref. photo online and it gave me this idea. Probably insane of me to try to make reduction prints from this, but meh I'm full of pain medication so probably not thinking clearly :p

First snow of 2011 - 2012

Hmm pavements are now white outside :/ I HATE WINTER!! unlike Mrs F, who loves it....strange strange strange girly.....

*cough cough* This weeks dog is the Old English Sheepdog :) Another dog that if you want fuzzy and fluffy, will take awhile to groom. I don't think I've seen any lately, but thankfully you can not dock their tails in this country any more. There is no reason besides cosmetic (OK, if the tail is broken, I could see then).

And *cough* I have a chest infection :/ Since Sunday I have been mostly sleeping, actually, mostly coughing :/ Couldn't have waited until the 20th when college goes on break? I have to miss a week because I can hardly go 5 minutes without coughing :/ blagh Can't even really draw since I have to stop to cough :p

Merry HoHo Finished

Done on drafting film. Colouresofts, I find work the best on drafting film, glides across the surface better then polys or prismas. Still not 100% comfortable with the film, but I'm getting there.

I do like how if you put different backing paper behind the film, the whole tone of a piece changes....
Its too dark with green behind it, and I had red behind it, but you could hardly see the green dragon. Now onto a few dog portraits and to think of a few mixed media projects for college....

Round and Round

Decided to do a WIP of how I do a linocut print :) Its either going to turn out or turn into a mess :p

First I draw an image that I like. This was going to be another reduction print, but I've changed my mind since I originally drew this. But I still like the drawing enough to use it.

I then put some tracing paper on the image and use a soft pencil trace over the drawing lines. You can see that I have changed the colours to different line thickness'.

Then I tape the tracing paper to the lino. If you are going to be printing words, remember to flip them or when you print the block the words will be backwards :p Rub the paper with something hard, I use a ruler. This will transfer the lines onto the block if you have pressed hard enough.

You then end up with an image transfer on the block that you can either go over with a sharpie to darken or just start cutting into the block right away. :)

*crosses fingers for the next step :)

It is a little odd not seeing snow on the mountains. This time last year we had over a foot of snow, but no sign of it yet. Not that I should complain, I'm not falling on my arse  :p

Little Doped Up

So none of the pain meds that I had were working, so I haven't been sleeping :/ Phoned the Drs, but her suggestion was to take meds that I told her I can't take, but no matter what I said she wouldn't listen. I was starting to get a little pissed off on the phone. Mr.F ended up phoning haematology at the hospital to ask them what I can take without effecting my bleeding disorder. The options were either Tramadol or oral morphine o.0

Thankfully talked to a different Dr who did prescribe me Tramadol, which thankfully is working so I might get some sleep tonight.  *crosses fingers*

It might have been minor surgery but its not the smallest cut and its probably about half a centimetre deep. The nurse had to cauterize some blood vessels. Not exactly the best smell :/

I was going to post a pic of the cut here, but didn't want to gross everyone out :p So if anyone wants to go eww click here :p

Radioactive Man

Didn't get much drawing done today at college and tomorrow there is no college as the teachers are on strike. Just means I get to draw from home instead and sleep till noon :p

Did manage to get a few rough drawings done, including this glowing man. The green seems to glow on the black paper, looks kinda neat.

Ow :/

No, the Coca-Cola lorry didn't run me over :p It was parked in the grocery store parking lot surronded by dozens of kids that probably should have been in school :/

The ow is my back. I had a skin biopsy done again on the same spot as last time, but a bit bigger this time :/ Why does the shot to numb the area have to hurt so much? I have a lot of freckles on my back, so have to watch them when they get itchy, the result of a bad sunburn when I was a kid :/ Could play connect the dots on my back when a person is bored :p  Wear sunscreen people!

Scottish Word of the Week

This weeks word is haddie :)

Last weeks word, tarry-fingert , which cindy guessed correctly is a person who steals :p

Saturday, November 26, 2011

I am not a huge Xmas fan, I like the lights and the snow but hate that so many people go insane this time of year trying to get the perfect gift and impress others. But I guess my dragons are Xmas fans since this will be the second Xmas picture with them in it :p

This is in the lovely ugly stage with CPs :p The stage were a lot of people get really discouraged when using CPs for the first time and give up. Wish they wouldn't. It can take awhile, but with a few more layers, things start looking better.

Just Add Water

I've been using water-soluble coloured pencils a lot. I can get detail when needed, but also a very loose watercolour effect. I think they work pretty good for life drawing, find it much easier to get values with them and work out the shapes of the body.

I had the hardest time with her shoulder here, ended up drawing it over and over again in my sketchbook but it still doesn't look right :/

Didn't cut myself...

Snow Run
Reduction Linocut

First reduction Linoprint, and no blood was shed :p 5 Colours on it, and I could have probably put a few more but I didn't want to go too crazy for a first one.

I did start out with 9 prints, but ended up with 6 in the end, and they all look a little different, this one is the best.

Will def. be doing this again as seeing how the image shows up with every colour you add is really neat to watch. I just have to be a bit more careful with registration marks, hence only having 6 prints left. Missed a few marks when pulling the print. oops :p

Woke up with a migraine from hell this morning :( Thankfully it seems to have faded now, but all day it hurt to look at any bright lights and hard to concentrate. I wanted to start another drawing, my head is full of ideas, but I just couldn't seem to concentrate enough to.

If I wasn't crazy before, I would be afer colouring this :p

OK, so I had said that this wasn't as detailed as I usually draw scarabs, but now that the 2 halves are together I am really rethinking the final size :p

I really wish I knew more about jewellery making, think that this would make a really pretty pendant.

Giant Granny Square

Almost done the square part of the bag and then onto the sides and handles. Would have it done, but I had to take apart 2 rows because I messed up somehow :/

Was going to get a greenish fabric for the lining, but no. Going to go with some skull fabric I've had laying around for a few years :p The black should work well against the green *crosses fingers*

Scottish Word of the Week

This weeks word is tarry-fingert, I like this word lol makes sense when you think about it

Last weeks word, mochy means damp or misty :)

Screwed Up

Another failed experiment. This is part of a bigger piece, but I really didn't like how it looked so was ripping it off the board when the teacher was like, wait, cut out what parts you like. I liked the textures of this part so into the sketchbook it went.

Since I really like using oil pastels and turps on unprimed surfaces, thought trying primed surfaces would work as well. Not so much :/ I like how you can build up texture with the gesso and how it still shows up once colour is applied, but don't like how of the pastels are lifted off when you apply the turps.

Probably try again, but maybe with a brush next time instead of  rag.

No longer blue, my hair is red, but on some parts looks purple from being covered by the red :p (ugh I need a hair cut again)
