White Tiger #4

Coming a long slowly, still loving this paper. Its great for creating fur :) Happy New Year to everyone :D Might make up a small list of art goals for 2014, but then theres pressure to finish them instead of working on what you really want to. Most of them would probably be print related anyway.

Books Reviews

Image
A couple of book reviews, probably the last for the year unless I don't sleep at all :p   Blood of Dragons by Robin Hobb My rating: 2 of 5 stars Hard to review this without spoilers, but I will try :) I enjoyed this series a lot, until this final one. A lot of intense build up and nothing really happens :/ Very anti-climatic. The best part of the whole series is of course the dragons, arrogant yes, but dragons should be. There were many times you forget they are dragons talking until they start complaining about being hungry :p Every time the love triangle reared its head with the younger characters, I wanted to put the books down. The characters lose all of their appeal and it so predictable what happens. Yes, characters change as a series progresses, and these are young characters left pretty much by themselves to discover the world and make new choices, but what happens is such a cliché. I did like how one minor character ended up, it was a fitting end, which you coul

Lend Me Your Ears....

Image
Jeanette made a blog post before Xmas asking for people to draw some ears if they wanted to and had the time. Its a good little drawing exercise and unless you are focusing on specific body parts, you tend to either just hint at ears in life drawing or you don't draw them at all if they are covered by hair. So here are 2 little ear sketches. I should do a series of sketches of other facial features just to get some more practice in.

White Tiger #3

Image
Back to work, need to tone down the pink nose so its not so light pink. Lovely weather we are having, not as bad as Ontario, or down south and we are on a hill, so unless there was more 10 feet of water the house would not get flooded. Still, its been raining all week and the wind has gotten up pretty strong that trees have broken and if something is not nailed down its going to go for a flight. Every time the lights flicker, I cross my fingers they will stay on. The dog refuses to go out and looks at us like we are crazy to suggest it :p

I know I've posted music by this band before, but this song makes me laugh :)

White Tiger #1

Image
Line art for a tiger finished, now to transfer it onto Fisher paper. Really like that paper, but I don't know how my polys will work on it, will let people know. Pencils do get eaten on the surface since its pretty much sandpaper, but I like how the Coloursofts work on it. Will be interesting to see how the harder pencils look. Its going to be a white Tiger, and while I do know of the horrible breeding problems and breeding practices that go on with the white Tigers, this one is pretty nice looking.

Last Day of College....

Image
Well it was supposed to be my last day in college this year, but of course I forgot the plate of the swans I was working on, so have to go back to Dundee tomorrow and cross my fingers it is still there. I'm not back until the 8th of January and want to work on the swans so the plate is ready to print when I go back, so have to go and see if its still in the room somewhere. (Things have a habit of going for a walk at the college :/, not that I think someone would take a printing plate, but you never know). The eagle above is the next etching I am working on. I figure stick to birds, its either that or go back to drawing big cats and horses all the time. Even tho an etching of a big cat would probably look nice. The etchings are done on plexi-glass , so the etching only shows up in a scan if I put a piece of dark paper behind it. Its not supposed to shatter like normal glass, but it def. shatters when you cut it and goes flying everywhere. I am still stepping on broken piece

Lots of Salt

Image
The background for a watercolour painting. The idea is to colour in some cranes, but will see if it works. *crosses fingers* I am counting down the days until jaw surgery because this is so bloody painful, nothing works for the pain :/ Not looking forward to surgery, its never fun and often there is some kind of problem when I am involved, not to mention having to wear a backless gown and flash people, but at this point I just want this defective jaw joint gone. Had another MRI today, with a dye contrast so my brain probably lit up the screen :p And of course I felt like I was going to sneeze when I was inside of it :p

3 Swans

Image
Really original title :p This is a test print of an etching. I forgot how much I love doing this, even if I do get ink everywhere :p I need to darken parts of the left swans and use the proper paper next time. I am really really  happy with how this is turning out :D

Fly Away

For Sale Really like the colours in this, they work really well with the folded cranes. Would love to get the bigger gelli-plate or make my own, but the plate isn't cheap, and there is no room in the fridge to make my own. We need another fridge just for me to put art materials in :p

Music Monday

I saw them in concert when they opened for Nickelback, was a very Canadian concert :p

Meow

Image
Actually I don't think tigers make a meow sound.... Been awhile since I have drawn a big cat, just been lots of various birds lately. Figured it was about time I started to draw something fuzzy and use my coloured pencils to do it. I want to get the line art done tomorrow, but that all depends on what time I decide to crawl out of bed. Its not the minus -33C that some parts of Canada are getting, but I'm not use to the cold any more, -3 is more then cold enough for me that I don't want to get out of a warm bed.

Scratch Scratch Scratch

Started to work on an etching, which sounds like nails on a chalkboard sometimes :/ Slow going but hopefully get it done this weekend *crosses fingers*

Bluebird of Happiness

Image
Ok, so its not a blue bird, its some kind of bird of prey, but I am happy with how its looks :p I think using Inktense pencils to draw a rough outline, and then using watercolours to roughly add shape and shading to the subject works really well for me.

Book Review

Image
The Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb My rating: 3 of 5 stars Adult version of The Dragon Riders of Pern?? The story is different, the dragons still talk, but are not exactly very cheerful or all that humble or helpful. This book is really, really slow for roughly the first 200 pages, interesting, but slow going as not much happens. But after that, things start in motion and a huge adventure starts. I thought the main characters were developed nicely, even the characters that we are not supposed to like very well. The dragons have their own very distinct personalities, and sometimes you do forget they are dragons and instead think they are a bunch of moody teenagers. I enjoyed reading about the dragon mythology and how the problems that caused them to be so scarce happened, and their appearance is described very vividly, very colourful dragons. And I do really like the idea of a live ship, a vessel that could navigate itself and also in some cases talk. I do want to find out what hap

Practice Practice Practice

Puffin Round One

2 more to go maybe?? I will probably just hand colour the beak since I forgot about it before I did this layer. *crosses fingers* for the next colour. If I end up with one print from this I will be happy, and if its not multi-coloured, I will still have a few simple black and white prints from the lino.

Sand Everywhere

Image
She loves the beach :) (hates the water tho :p) Walking still not the best, so now walking on the sand for me, probably never going to be 100% but I would be fine if it improves enough I can feel my foot and stopped falling over nothing :p Would love to go back to college too, *crosses fingers* next week :) Tad annoying not being able to go, but not safe at the moment for me to walk around carrying a bunch of heavy sketchbooks :/ Very loose watercolour :) While I like the look of very detailed watercolour works, I prefer working very loose myself.

Yay.....

(not my photo, will remove if asked) Had an appointment today with a neurologist, and 2 (training?) doctors, I'm always asked if its OK for the junior docs to be in the room. Um, no :p How are they supposed to learn if they don't see first hand what goes on? Never understood the people that say no, since the junior docs generally just observe and ask questions, and will probably have to treat you in the future. Anyway, I need to have another MRI since its been a few years since the last one. If there is no change, great, if there is then there are new drugs now that I can maybe take to try to lessen the damage. Either different injectable meds, or there are a few daily pills that are a possibility. Really hate MRIs. Claustrophobia doesn't really click in, (close my eyes and try not to think of anything), its just really loud in that metal tube :p Lots of loud banging that music no matter how loud doesn't drown out. I asked for a copy of my own MRI, so when I

Finished Kitty?

hmmm, not 100% happy with it, but it will do for now :) Its very simple, but sometimes simple is good. Need to draw the line art for a red squirrel and a highland cow now....

Odd Looking Cat

This looks so odd lol Didn't want it looking realistic, but maybe I should have paid a bit more attention when drawing the line art :p

Book Review

Image
Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne My rating: 2 of 5 stars A group of teenagers stuck in a superstore after a huge disaster, with really no way out. This was a fast read, with a very toned down Lord of the Flies theme trough it. it was entertaining, but a bit predictable in a lot of place even for a YA story. I probably would have rated this higher actually if the story would have just ended where it had, instead of continuing the series. I think it would have been better to leave the fate of the kids up to the readers imagination, might have made a better story. View all my reviews

Blagh Steriods

Image
Thankfully I don't need to take any more of these right now, they taste horrible :/ A few days ago I started having problems with my right leg, pins and needles feeling, major drop foot and then it just got worse to the point I could not walk at all. That was fun :p So 3 days of steroids to try to help and an appointment with neurology on Tuesday. Probably if they don't think this round of steroids has done enough, they will either increase the dose or put me on IV steroids.  This course of steroids has done a bit, but its still very hard to walk around and steps are dangerous more then they usually are :p I don't sleep when I take steroids, I was given sleeping pills but they don't seem to be helping, the lack of sleep would be great if I could actually walk around. Would get lots of house work done :p

Book Review

Image
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon My rating: 3 of 5 stars Quick review: I really enjoyed this book, I tend to like stories that deal with clairvoyance or magic,(even if it doesn't actually make a lot of sense :p). Its not the best written story and at some places you do get given a lot of information that slows the telling of the story down, but if those sections were taken out, the rest of the story would be fast paced. I wasn't aware this is the first in a series of 7, and I don't know how the author is going to make 6 more books with these characters and this world. View all my reviews

Poor Neglected Blog

Image
This is going to take awhile to carve :/ I didn't go to college this week. My attendance has been horrible and its not the MS that is causing me to miss class, its the pain from my jaw :/ As much as I don't want surgery, I can't deal with this pain for much longer. I was going to go on Friday, but my cab didn't show up, and then the car wouldn't start, (of course :/).  I go on Monday to talk to the Doctors about my jaw, and then I guess its just a matter of time before the surgery. I can't take any other medication for the pain because of other health issues, and I really shouldn't be feeling as much pain as I am on the dose of pain killers I am on. The only other thing I can take is liquid morphine, and I don't want that and they are very reluctant to prescribe it. Getting college work finished, but missing out on many things in class and I am so behind in life drawing, if I fail the year, it will probably be because of that class.

I have only been to 3 life drawing classes at college so far this year, so out of practice lol

Lino Cut?

Image
Very tempted to turn this into a reduction lino cut, but probably only 3 or 4 colours, maybe only 2. Need to thicken some of the lines and figure out which colours to use. I might end up just painting it, or I can do both :) Guess it all depends on how much time I want to spend on it. Quick to paint, not quick to carve out :p

Managed to do some work on this on the weekend :) Slow going but it will get done eventually *crosses fingers*

Eureka!

Image
Might have gotten to the bottom of the problems I have been having with my lung. The reason I have stumped the docs if because no one thought that there might be more then one problem. The pain didn't make any sense on top of the breathing problems. So more then likely have asthma, which explains why being around someone who smells like they bathed in crappy perfume causes me to not be able to breath properly. Really people? There is no reason to smell like you were in the middle of a perfume factory explosion. The pain could be something called a MS hug . Its so painful :( And I hate that 1-10 pain scale. Its pointless because what I consider a 5, might be a 10 for someone else. Def. a 10 today tho, wanted to curl into a ball or get someone to knock me out.  So back to the docs, who agrees its probably 2 things causing the problem. Need to talk to my MS nurse and take more pain killers, since the only thing to do is manage the pain :/ yay... Messing around with my Inktense

My Little Pony

Image
Well its a horse not a pony :p I am out of practising drawing horses, really need to practice drawing them more. Probably going to finish this in graphite, another medium I am out of practise with. Lung function test today. I have the lung capacity of a 50 year old it seems :p Still no idea what is really going on, so back in a month after a change of medication.
