End of Year Book Wrap Up

Image
I didn't end up reading just really bad books this year, there were a few good ones in the mix of the really bad ones. Only 2 books got a 5 star review this year, but there were lot more 4 star reviews but also a few books I would have rated 0 stars if I could have lol The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss My rating: 5 of 5 stars OK yes this is a very long book but besides the parts that happen in the fae world world, the book flows well, the characters are interesting and I want to know what happens next. Good world building, interesting creatures and good lore/mythology build up. Now the long wait for the next book The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood My rating: 5 of 5 stars Re-Read Still a really good book. I can understand why some people do not like it, especially the historical notes at the end, (they seem out of place and don't need to be there), but I do think this does a good job combining atrocities from the past into one horrible exampl

Eagle Owl #16

Image
I had planned on getting more of this finished today, but my hand is numb and using a sharp pointy tool with a numb hand just leads to lots of blood and plasters lol so I only managed a bit of work on the body feathers. I do plan on trying to make a small tutorial on how I etch the feathers, just need to figure out how to mount the camera so it is at the right angle to film.

Now that my dissertation is finished, all 6500 words of it, 500 more then needed but 100 under the limit lol I could have really written 6000 more words on my topic, but now I can start working on this owl again. This is a pretty dark scan of the plate, but for some reason I couldn't get Photoshop to play nice tonight and lighten this, but for now it will do. Hopefully I will get some more done tomorrow, might even get started on the shading if I get some other art finished.

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
Artemis by Andy Weir My rating: 3 of 5 stars I had such high hopes for this since I loved The Martian, but the main character just felt like the female version of Mark from The Martian, like the author could really only write one type of character. It did make me laugh at some points and the other characters do make up for the main characters faults, even if they themselves can be a little cliché. Good world building, but its the moon so there isn't much to make up when describing it, its pretty barren but nice descriptions of the domes and how people live there. Drunk Dragons Finished

Image
RedBubble Store Finished drunk dragons. Its simple but I think it looks good. I tend to just have flat cartoony looking things when using Illustrator, I think it suits my style more then trying to be as realistic as possible with vectors. I'm not encouraging drinking, I hardly drink myself, but thought the dragons would try to be sneaky and steal some alcohol this time of year :)

I think I am finished with the dragons themselves but wont know for sure until the glasses are done too. I could have coloured this with coloured pencils, but digital is so much quicker lol I am not stopping with coloured pencils, love them too much, (and I have way too many pencils not to use them), but will probably use them mostly for animal drawings or the odd fantasy piece but digital works right now, especially when I only have a few minutes to work on something.

I would probably would have had this finished today but I didn't get up until 1 pm lol I think I'm getting a cold tho so sleeping in is a good idea. Hopefully have it done in the next few days but I need to finish up my dissertation and I am so close now, but then it needs editing....

Starting to add flat colours to the little dragons. I plan on just leaving it flat colours with a bit of shading and some highlights, so very simple. I've had people ask me why I have so many different art projects on the go at one time. Mostly so I don't get bored with one thing and also so if I only have 5 minutes to work on something I can just work on a digital piece rather then having to pull everything else out of drawers to work on it.
