Chirp Chirp

I think this bird is a tanager. not sure which one tho. Pretty sure you don't get them here, but you do get a lot of other tiny songbirds, that are very loud in the morning. The "Dawn Chorus" can bugger off when its early in the morning lol

  1. Being woken up by pretty much anything in the morning is annoying. But your bird sketches are great!

  2. Hi Jennifer, remember me?
Gary here! Thought you deserved an explanation as to the status of my former blog. Yes, it's gone. It had become less about painting and morphed into a rather boring bunch of sunsets, ships, planes and Hawaiian scenery.
It was time to move on, and after giving it a decent amount of thought, I hit the "delete" button. It was something of a relief. No worries about what to post and no need to photograph every sunset and aircraft taking off now.
Improving my golf game has become something of a preoccupation of late, and the perfect weather makes it easy to do. I guess at my age, being decent at physical activities may be a waste of time, but my middle two names are "Don" and "Quixote". Every day seems like part of life's last hurrah, so I'll keep jousting at those windmills.
I want to express my thanks for sticking with me to the end. You, and Rhonda Carpenter, as I'm sure you noticed, were the only people commenting during the last year or two. That's a sure sign a blog has failed to stay relevant.
I hope you're doing well of late, and it looks like you're becoming quite adept at drawing with your left hand. As I told Rhonda, I will continue to visit both your blogs in the future.
    It's been fun.
    Gary

  3. Ha ha! I was awake at 1:30 this morning and heard a bird outside my window singing. I thought birds didn't sing unless it was day? Maybe it's just spring but they all seem pretty active with some just trilling and singing their little hearts out right now. I don't mind that waking me up - the neighbor dragging his garbage can out to the curb while walking his barking dog at 6:30 yesterday morning = not so tolerant of that noise and that time!

  4. Great sketch!
The Dawn Chorus - so they put a name on this. Obviously, whoever coined this term has never experienced this particular annoyance. Songbirds and woodpeckers are not so charming in the early morning hours.

  5. What a lovely sketch, we don't have a lot of songbirds here, but we do have some that sing at night...

  7. thank you Kristin :) yes the call centre phone calls in the morning really annoy me

Gary! I wondered what happened, was actually about to email you to find out. the photos of Hawaii were not boring, but there is no point blogging if you don't enjoy it anymore. glad to read you will still be around lurking :)

Rhonda, maybe any near by street lights were confusing the birds?? I know in some areas you can't bring the bins out or in until certain times because it does annoy so many people. what annoys me is the people that rev their car engines really early or late all the time, even tho there are def cut off times for that

thanks Chris :) woodpeckers are def not a welcome noise in the early morning. I hadnt actually known the early bird singing had a name until it was an answer on one of the loads of quiz shows on tv here

thanks Lisa :) if you live in a big town or city, you probably wouldn't here them even if they were around :) maybe you her them t night tho because its not so loud out/
