Whip-poor-will

Left handed sketch #123 is a Nightjar but I usually refer to them by the name Whip-poor-will because I think its cute lol

#124 is a Woodhouse's scrub jay, another bird I had never heard of before and a striking blue colour in the photos.

  2. Is it whip poor will because of the noise it makes? Very cute birds, I am not familiar with them at all. Also I have worked out how to comment using my iPad, at last......

  7. I always enjoy seeing your wonderful bird sketches, Jennifer.
We have a Whip-poor-will here and they nest on the ground.
I trod on a nest once because I did not see it mixed in with some leaves.
I smashed the eggs, do not know how many because when I say smashed,
    I mean smashed.
    Very upsetting.

thanks Jo :) Glad to be inspiring to sketch, I wish I had the time to participate in the sketch group you do :)

    thanks Chris :)

thank you Julie :) the birds blend in so well with their environment it can be almost impossible to see them if they don't move. broken eggs is a big problem for ground nesting birds since the eggs blend in too :/ sad but pretty much unavoidable
